CSEM-BMP - Towards an extraordinary possibility

No corporate organisations can yet claim to have realised real ecological sustainability. But...

What if the sustainability and environmental managers and leaders of our concentrated global industries had the knowledge and leadership capability to demonstrate the possibility of real sustainability to their management and shareholders - and their organisations led the world into a new future, beyond the environmental and climate change crisis?

In the last three years or so, it has become clear that pioneers of sustainability management can now convey what is necessary for a single organisation to achieve, in principle, real sustainability. In relation to our future, there is new an extraordinary possibility.

CSEM has pioneered the thinking and training that has led to this possibility - and can now provide all the training and management development necessary for the largest organisations. Now it is up to us!

CSEM-BMP Background

CSEM (pronounced ceesem), formerly the Brunel Environmental Management Centre (EMC), was founded in 1990 by Ross King and Ken Knight within the Brunel Management Programme (BMP) at Brunel University. BMP itself was founded in 1971 by Ken Knight, within BIOSS, Elliot Jaques' Brunel Institute of organisation and Social Studies and became the largest senior management programme in the UK over many years.

EMC and BMP merged and became independent as 'CSEM' at the close of the 90s. CSEM followed the route of some twenty or so Institutes, Centres and Units out of Brunel, leaving to avoid losing identity in a few main departments - a process driven by UK government University funding rules of the time.

BMP, EMC and CSEM have always been self-funded, self-managed and self- organised, with their own business infrastructure and systems, operating autonomously in relation to their validating institutions.

CSEM-BMP Activities

CSEM's main activities are Education & Training (at both post-graduate and seminar level), Research and Consultancy, directed to the prime purpose of supporting the development of Sustainable Business in the UK and world-wide.

CSEM-BMP Structure

CSEM's structure is changing to meet the needs of growth.

Until now CSEM-BMP has been a small-core: large periphery organisation, a model shared with many of the most successful Business Schools and other service organisations. The core typically includes two to four directors, an acting Board, some Senior Associate Programme Directors and a small administrative office. The 'periphery' normally includes other senior Associate Course Directors and Contributors.

CSEM-BMP Associate Course Directors & Contributors - the faculty:

Members of both the core and periphery are selected on the basis that they are already successful pioneering managers, advisors or academics in their field. They need to have the commitment, knowledge, professional reputation and personal skills in Environmental and Sustainable management development to be fully credible and attractive to delegates and clients. In particular, what makes them credible to clients, is their generally strong record of achievement in corporate business, government or consultancy. See the list of Associate Faculty & Contributors.
